Walmart Offering Truck Driving Jobs at $90K
The entire commercial truck driving industry is seriously lacking drivers and Walmart, with so many storefronts, is at the heart of the issue. Walmart is a major company that has nearly 4,800 stores in every major city in the U.S. and, certainly, no shortage of jobs. They even have an entire branch of their company dedicated to truck driving alone, with fleet maintenance, distribution centers, and the Walmart truck drivers all under that umbrella.
To drive for Walmart means a steady job, generous salaries, the promise to be home every week, layover pay, and agreeable benefits. Luckily, Walmart, hiring truck drivers actively now, has made an effort to recruit more and more people and people are scrambling to get them.
Walmart Truck Driver Pay and Benefits
On average, the Walmart truck driver pay averages at about $87,500 in the first year alone. Like any job, with time and more responsibility, the salary only goes up. What’s more, Walmart offers certain extra premiums on both activity and mileage in certain regions of the United States. Their legendary benefits include getting up to 21 days of personal time off (PTO) and four paid safety days in the first year alone. On top of that, Walmart truck drivers get generous 401k, dental, and medical benefits and company-paid life and disability insurance.
Walmart Driving Jobs – Qualifications
Walmart truck drivers are offered to drive both locally and nationally, giving drivers the choice to see the country or stay close to home. Additionally, their drivers, unlike other companies, are not required to do any of the loading and unloading of the goods that they transport.
To drive for Walmart is the dream for many CDL drivers, and the benefits alone are perhaps the most enticing part. The company also puts a huge emphasis on the amount of respect, independence, and free time that is given to their drivers. However, if you want to be a Walmart truck driver, you have to meet certain mandatory qualifications. These include, among others:
- Class A CDL (Commercial Drivers License) and at least 30 months of experience in the past 3 years
- Cleared background check
- No more than two moving violations within the past 2 years
- Hazmat Endorsement (within 3 months of hire)
- No record of DUIs (including any variant; DWI, OUI, or reckless driving involving drugs or alcohol) within the past 10 years
- No serious traffic violations
Walmart is also considered to be among the safest companies for truckers to work for and the main reason people leave is for retirement. If you’re a truck driver and you’re looking for a steady job with great benefits, a low turnover for retirement, high salaries and room to rise up in the company, Walmart is the company to work for.
Although Walmart is a great company to work for, there are still many others out there that you can start with if you want to get your training.
