Truck drivers can sometimes lead a stressful life. The hours are often very long, but if you’ve got a good podcast or radio station to listen to, time tends to fly by. Regardless, being a truck driver is tough no matter how you twist it.

Getting enough sleep while on long routes is, of course, vital to good mental health. But it is also important to remain alert while driving such a large vehicle. Tip #1: A Good Mattress

For the most part, many drivers end up sleeping at truck stops. Although that might not sound like the most comfortable arrangement, you’d be surprised. Tip #2: Pay Attention To Where You Park

Try to find a location that is on even ground, has very little light, is at a cozy temperature, and away from busy/noisy areas. Unless you’re able to enter REM sleep for at least a few hours, you won’t feel truly rested – thus won’t be at the top of your game while driving. Tip #3: Create A Plan With Your Partner

Team truckers drivers that are in groups of two will be able to take turns sleeping in the truck, while the other one drives. Discuss with your partner at what times you’ll both be taking your break and do everything you can to respect their time asleep. While your partner is resting, try to avoid any bumpy areas of the road or loud noises so that they can get the healthy sleep they need to do their best and feel their best. This may not always be possible but remember that, in return, they will do the same for you.

Tip #4: Stick To A Schedule

If you can set aside a specific time for sleeping in your truck, your body will naturally be able to fall into sleep quicker as it gets into a rhythm. Obviously, the sooner you fall asleep, the more likely you will be able to meet the truck driver sleep requirements. But depending on your driving schedule, you should ideally be able to set aside a six to eight-hour block in the morning or at night for when you will get your sleep.
